• Early summer (Jun)Sulphurs, Light Cahill, Yellow Sally (nymph → bank adult), Green Sedge, first terrestrials.
• High summer (Jul–Aug)Terrestrials; Yellow Sally / Golden Stones; Tricos morning if flats exist. Ethics critical on an ungaged VA mountain freestone.
• Fall (Sep–Dec)Terrestrials taper; Light Cahill dusk; midges + BWO; Early Black Stones; October Caddis.

Temp & time of day

Thermometer-first. Feeding core ~50–65 °F if measured. Yellow Sally is a summer daytime/bank-adult watch, not a midstream emerger. Summer: mornings/evenings + soft hold in the upper 60s. If reach is >3500 ft, calendar can run ~2–4 weeks behind — confirm on the water.
