  • Spring (Apr–May)Hendrickson, March Brown, Quill Gordon; Grannom → Hydropsyche (pupa key); Sulphurs evening; Light Cahill; Giant Stones; BWO.
  • Early summer (Jun)Sulphurs, Light Cahill, Yellow Sally, Green Sedge, first terrestrials.
  • High summer (Jul–Aug)Terrestrials; Yellow Sally / Golden Stones; Tricos on slower water if present. Ethics critical.
  • Fall (Sep–Dec)Terrestrials taper; Light Cahill dusk; midges + BWO; Early Black Stones; October Caddis. Brown spawn — avoid redds.

Remote wild-trout National Forest water. Stay on public NF / signed access. Confirm NCWRC Wild Trout regs (typically artificial-only — confirm). Low-pressure ethic: do not treat as a high-pin DH destination.

Ethics: No NC statewide hoot-owl. Soft hold in the upper 60s. Do not trust a cool reading at 03446000 as an all-clear on the wild South Mills. Thermometer on site. Summer: candidate to reroute toward TW / spring / higher, colder water. Fall: do not route onto brown redds.
