Rapidan River – SNP
Heritage brook-trout water. Treat it gently. No gage yet, so bring a thermometer and keep ethics first until coverage improves.

Insects by season
Southern Appalachians seasonal guess, tuned a bit for this water type. Stage tips from the insect notes. Beat-specific lists still need a check against NCWRC / VA DWR.
- Winter (Jan–Mar)Midges; BWO; Early Black Stones; Blue Quill; late-Mar Quill Gordon if prior holds at elevation.
- Spring (Apr–May)Quill Gordon, Hendrickson, March Brown; caddis; Sulphurs / Light Cahill later than low-elevation TW; Giant Stones as regional prior (unconfirmed).
- Early summer (Jun)Sulphurs, Light Cahill, Yellow Sally, first terrestrials — all regional, not Rapidan-confirmed.
- High summer (Jul–Aug)Terrestrials if you are there at all; otherwise this card’s job is the ethics hold. Do not market a July–Aug hatch destination on SNP brookies.
- Fall (Sep–Dec)Midges + BWO; Early Black Stones; October Caddis as regional prior. Brook trout spawn — avoid redds.
Gap: No Rapidan-specific insect list. Staunton River (Rapidan trib) is a separate seed water — do not merge. Elevation not stated.
Temp & time of day
Thermometer-first. Brookie-conservative: treat mid-60s as caution and upper 60s as a hold. Prefer the cool half of the feeding band. Summer: mornings only if temps allow; otherwise do not recommend.
Access
C&R (sources). SNP / Rapidan WMA public lands — stay on park/WMA rules; NPS/DWR regs can differ by parcel (confirm official pages). Ethics-first, low-pressure: do not pin hole-by-hole.
Conservative one-liner only. No parking spots, crossings, or trespass workarounds.
Live USGS readouts aren’t wired yet. Use the linked gage pages and a thermometer. This box is just showing the shape — not live data.
